Govts Formation: PML-N, PPP Coordination Committees To Meet For Sixth Times Today
Both sides have not yet come to a definitive agreement, according to the people with knowledge of the process. There have been no clear outcomes from the PML-N and PPP’s continuing talks.
ISLAMABAD: News Feb. 20, 2024 Today is the sixth meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) coordination committees, where plans for building governments in Punjab and at the federal level will be discussed.
The people with knowledge of the situation claim that both sides have not yet come to a definitive agreement. There have been no clear outcomes from the PML-N and PPP’s continuing talks.
The next conference becomes more significant in light of recent political developments, most notably the coalition that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) established with the Sunni Itehad Council (SIC) and Majlis-e-Wahdatul-Muslimeen (MWM) for the creation of federal and Punjabi governments. Leaders of the PTI declare their determination to create government and their majority.
Given the current circumstances, the SIC has applied to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the distribution of reserved seats as a result of the inclusion of independent candidates sponsored by the PTI.
According to the sources, there has been no definitive agreement reached in the PML-N and PPP’s talks over forming a government. The purpose of today’s meeting is to resolve outstanding concerns and maybe come to an agreement on some very important ones.
Speaking to reporters, senior PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal voiced hope for the current talks. He hinted that considerations about the PPP’s cabinet nomination could already be under consideration.
The committees convened on Monday night and had talks, but they ended the meeting early to confer with the leaders of their respective parties.
